Julian House

Helping a homelessness charity smash its fundraising targets with a pro bono Christmas animation.

Mute

Julian House is a Bath-based charity that supports vulnerable and at-risk individuals, including those experiencing homelessness, escaping domestic abuse, adults with learning difficulties, and people leaving prison.

Helping over 1,600 vulnerable individuals across the South West and supporting more than 600 people on the streets in the last year alone, they’ve not only changed hundreds of lives, but saved many as well. Having invited Julian House to talk to our team about the support they provide, we decided our approach would be to create an animation raising awareness and driving vital donations for the charity over the Christmas period. We created a narrative-led animation showing how easily an ordinary person can fall into homelessness with the key message that homelessness does not take a break, especially during the festive season.
The result

Raised £200K+

The story follows a young woman as she deals with financial problems and a difficult relationship which eventually leaves her homeless. She struggles through the winter, cold and alone, until she receives support from one of Julian House’s outreach workers who takes her to one of their hostels where she can be warm and safe.

All scenes and characters were illustrated in a unique hand-drawn style, utilising a limited palette of dark purples and pinks to juxtapose the warmth and safety of the yellows within the Julian House hostel.

The video was released across Julian House’s social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.

The animation proved crucial to Julian House’s Christmas appeal, and was integral in helping them to surpass their £200,000 fundraising target, allowing them to continue providing their vital support to Bath’s most vulnerable throughout and beyond the tough winter months.

“The video went on to be an integral and influential part of our Christmas Appeal reaching new audiences for the charity and helped us to reach our ambitious target of £200K!”
